Belgian fresh and frozen food products distributor Univeg is starting the construction of a new logistics and distribution centre in Sofia, the company said, without specifying the sum of the investment and the location of the project.

One fifth of the unit, with a total surface of 8,000 sq m, will be used for storage of frozen foods. The distribution centre will also include 25 loading platforms.

The project will be carried out by another Belgium-owned company – Kordeel Bulgaria and is scheduled to be completed in mid-2010.

Belgian Univeg entered Bulgarian market in 2006 as part of its expansion strategy in eastern Europe. Currently it is focused on providing logistics services. It runs two warehouses of 600 and 3,800 sq m in Sofia and transports products on 20 daily routes in the country.

Univeg is present in 25 countries and generates revenue of over EUR 2.2 billion.
