NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Friday in Sarajevo that there is no connection between Butmir process and application for accession to MAP and pointed out that this application will be assessed on the basis of capabilities of BiH to fulfill conditions from NATO.

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Friday in Sarajevo that there is no connection between Butmir process and application for accession to MAP and pointed out that this application will be assessed on the basis of capabilities of BiH to fulfill conditions from NATO.

He, after meeting with BiH Presidency members Haris Silajdzic and Nebojsa Radmanovic, in his press statement pointed out that NATO welcomed application for MAP and that it wants to see progress in relations between BiH and NATO.

"NATO is not part of Butmir process and I did not make connection Butmir process and your application but we would like to see progress in political talks and I point out that your application for MAP will be assessed on the basis of your capability to fulfill NATO conditions”; Rasmussen said.

According to Silejdzic’s words, it was pointed out in open dialogue with Rasmussen to the problem of connecting the Butmir process and NATO’s road that has been successful so far.

Silajdzic pointed out that BiH was praised for achieved results on the road to NATO but that in the last month “a badly performed show in Butmir related to the constitutional reform” was brought into connection with this process.

He added that road to NATO was “locomotive that dragged BiH towards integrations but that this is no longer the case” even though BiH progress towards NATO remains priority.

Rasmussen mentioned that he did not visit BiH in order to announce decision related to BiH application for MAP and that the decision will be made within the next week at the meeting between NATO ministers of foreign affairs.
