Dairy farmers said they would block the Bitola-Prilep and Demir Hisar-Kukurecani road as they are displeased with overdue payments for their milk.

Dairy farmers who cooperate with Swedmilk Macedonia dairy began a protest on Saturday in front of the plant and later they massed outside government's building.

The protesters urged the government to help them provide the overdue payment for the milk they had sold out to Swedmilk dairy, as now the debt hit 4 million euros.

The Ministry of Agriculture said the government keeps a watchful eye on the situation.

Roger Oscarson, the CEO of Swedmilk Macedonia, said he would table a proposal this week on how to bridge the current crisis. He added that two companies are interested in joint  venture with Swedmilk Macedonia, which could overcome the current financial problems that the dairy is facing. /end/ vs
