The EU supported the revitalisation of the road with a total amount of € 738,000 under the Cross-Border Cooperation Neighbourhood Programme (CARDS 2004) with Greece, with an objective to ease the traffic on the transit road en route to Greece.

This road is of special importance in the border area since it is the only mode of communication, in absence of railways.

The road is now operational and improves significantly the absorption of traffic and its safety in the cross border area.
