Swedish FM on unofficial Belgrade visit

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt was in Belgrade on Oct. 10, on an unofficial visit, and met with President Tadic and Foreign Minister Jeremic, the Foreign Ministry of Sweden, the current chair of the EU, confirmed.

Irena Busic, spokeswoman for the Swedish foreign minister, told that he met with Tadic and Jeremic in Belgrade adding that she could say no more about the talks because the visit was unofficial.

Bildt announced on his Internet blog that he had visited Belgrade on Oct. 10 and discussed overcoming obstacles to tje European integration of the Balkans with Tadic and Jeremic.

On Oct. 12, the Serbian president's cabinet told BETA that it could neither confirm nor deny statements about Bildt's unannounced visit to Belgrade, while no information about his talks could be obtained from the Serbian Foreign Ministry.

The Sarajevo daily Dnevni Avaz reported on Oct. 10 that Bildt visited Belgrade "seemingly in secret" and that his visit was "motivated by the start of talks in Butmir," where the leaders of Bosnian parties met with EU and U.S. officials on Oct. 9.
