EULEX to open an office in northern Kosovska Mitrovica

Kermabon pointed out that the goal of EULEX is to introduce customs control in entire Kosmet. Italian ambassador to Kosovo-Metohija Michael Giffoni was officially appointed as the EU representative for the north of Kosmet.
EULEX chief Yves de Kermabon stated that EULEX is to open an office in northern Kosovska Mitrovica in a few weeks.According to him, the temporary office will be located in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica, while the next one will probably be situated in the downtown.
During the visit to the Kosovska Mitrovica court which is composed only of EULEX judges and prosecutors, Kermabon pointed out that the mission's priority is to return ethnic-Albanian and Serbian judges and prosecutors to this court and make them work together. We have to persuade Pristina and Belgrade to allow these men to return and do their jobs. That process is difficult and we would like that it had already been completed. However, the sooner it happens, the better, Kermabon said.
Kermabon pointed out that the goal of EULEX is to introduce customs control in entire Kosmet. However, in order to realize this, an agreement between Pristina and Belgrade is needed and we are working on it. It a long process and it will take some time to find optimal solutions, Kermabon said. Kermabon stated that security situation is generally stable.
Italian ambassador to Kosovo-Metohija Michael Giffoni was officially appointed as the EU representative for the north of Kosmet.
The announcement from the Office of EU Special Representative Peter Faith, reads that the Union is dedicated to establishing a comprehensive and continuous presence in northern Kosmet to increase activities in the area, where the Serbs are the majority population.
It is underlined that the appointment Giffoni in no way affects the mandate of the Special Representative of the Union, as well as that Giffoni will work closely with all relevant factors, especially with the special representative.
It is common practice that ambassadors from EU countries help in the field in areas that require special attention, the communiqué reads.
