Head of the European Commission (EC) Delegation to Belgrade Vincent Degert said that the European Union will invest about EUR one billion in Serbia in the next five years in the form of donations.

The aid is earmarked for various sectors, ranging from agriculture, infrastructure and energy to the reform of the state administration. This will prove that the EU is investing in Serbia and its regions and that it will continue to do so in order to help Serbia in the integration process, he said at a ceremony marking the completion of a project of the central heating network reconstruction in Uzice.

The EU has invested EUR 4.4 million in that project. The EU has also invested about half a million euros in the energy sector in Serbia, ranging from power generation to its rational use in Uzice, Cacak, Pancevo, Valjevo and Subotica, Degert said.
