Belgrade-Ankara bilateral relations are at the highest level, President Boris Tadic said in Novi Sad on Oct. 27, adding that the two countries are resolved to continue future cooperation.

Belgrade-Ankara bilateral relations are at the highest level, President Boris Tadic said in Novi Sad on Oct. 27, adding that the two countries are resolved to continue future cooperation.

"Turkey, as a global power and a country without which it is not possible to establish peace at any point of the globe which is in the focus of the international public, and Serbia, as an inevitable security factor in Southeastern Europe, at this moment both have an exceptional role in establishing a European future for the entire Balkans," the president stressed.

After touring the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad together with his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul, Tadic said the two countries are linked by a common history, stressing that today, Belgrade and Ankara share the same goal - EU accession.

Both countries will support each other in the process, he added.

According to Tadic, Turkey and Serbia also have a great interest in economic cooperation, adding that Serbia's potential and investment possibilities have been presented to Turkish businesspeople.

"Today we are in the position to resolve certain outstanding issues in the Balkans, but all the issues we talk about can essentially be resolved only as part of EU integration," Tadic noted, also stressing, "That's why Serbia supports a European integration of Turkey just as Ankara backs Belgrade on the same path."

The Turkish president said there are good historical ties between Serbia and Turkey, adding that the two countries are endeavoring to further improve them.

"If the two countries continue to work together, it would be to the benefit of the whole of Europe, particularly Southeastern Europe," Gul noted. As regards the economy, Gul went on to say that there is a strong economic cooperation, adding that he and Tadic had discussed everything in detail.

Turkish businesspeople, according to Gul, expressed great interest in investing in Serbia, adding that he hopes that it will produce concrete results.
