Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic yesterday met with representatives from four renowned US companies interested in investing in Serbia.

Representatives from Boston Power, Farma Sfir LLC, Metric Engineering and Tech NuVo will be in Serbia from November 1 until 5. At yesterday's meeting at the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development they voiced their wish to visit several potential locations for production halls.

Dinkic acquainted them with simulative measures which the Serbian Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SIEPA) offers to attract foreign investments, presenting them with Serbia’s export advantages, such as the free trade agreement with Russia, Belarus, Turkey and CETFA countries.

He stressed that Serbia is ready to motivate investors to put up their own production facilities, adding that the last quarter of 2009 has been marked by economic recovery in Serbia and other countries, which will continue in 2010.

The global crisis has made large international companies shift their production to countries with lower production costs, Dinkic recalled.

Representatives of four major US companies have expressed interest in setting up production in Serbia.

Leading US lithium battery manufacturer Boston Power’s marketing director for Europe, Erika Jangen said that the company plans to enter the car industry and is interested in cooperating with Fiat in Serbia.

Harold Theran, deputy head of development at PharmaSphere LLC, a biotechnology company that utilizes the TerraSphere technology to produce high-value, plant-based biocompounds for the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical markets, will visit several locations in the Macva District which are suitable for production.

Representatives of Metric Engineering expressed interest in the Corridor 10 transport project. Metric Engineering is a leading US construction management company.

TechNuVo company representatives announced the opening of a development centre in Belgrade by the end of this year. The centre will employ local programmers and offer Cheap Today services, one of the leading online services in the US.
