Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic stated that talks with the Social Democratic League of Vojvodina (LSV) have resulted in agreement over the working version of the draft law on determining the jurisdiction of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic stated that talks with the Social Democratic League of Vojvodina (LSV) have resulted in agreement over the working version of the draft law on determining the jurisdiction of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Nenad Canak, the President of LSV, Cvetkovic said that he expects that the Serbian government will adopt the draft law tomorrow and forward it to parliament, where it is expected to be supported by a majority of MPs.
The Prime Minister remarked that the discussion was very constructive, adding that certain proposals and suggestions were made regarding the draft law which were accepted.
I am pleased to say that our positions are similar, said Cvetkovic. Together with Canak, he stated that the law will establish Novi Sad’s status as the capital city of Vojvodina.
Canak said that the talks focused on certain elements of the law concerning the transfer of jurisdiction, which had to be precisely defined, and this was achieved today.
The most important fact is that the amendments we talked about will not allow any further laws to reduce the autonomous powers which Vojvodina has under its Statute of Autonomy, said Canak.
He said that Novi Sad was discussed and its status as the capital city of Vojvodina will be affirmed, adding that they also talked about the property of the province, primarily public companies.
A number of questions were discussed which will serve to strengthen support for this important law, said Canak.

I have absolutely lost all hope for my own people. I've lived in Canada for 8 years now; I've been through the war in Bosnia, I've survived the NATO bombings, and I never lost hope, but believed in my people. In those eight years our country has been reduced and humiliated, and you (my fellow Serbs) haven't said a word... shame on you. You even allowed the Russians to give you their "presents", but look at the strings attached...
I'm not a nationalist, I'm a patriot pure and simple, and I'm all for positive change, but... no comment... its too much.
We will definitely! get into the EU without these disgusting concessions, it is a fact of life... so why the hell do you allow these politicians to destroy everything that was built on the blood of your fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers? Why did they die? For what?
My belief in my people has finally left me. I am ashamed. I am ashamed of you, and I am ashamed to be a part of you. Not the politicians, but you people! who allowed this to happen. To live by the diktat of foreigners, shame on you all.
If you re-elect these corrupted paraplegics, you deserve to get whats coming.
I am 23 years old. I was expelled from my home in 1992 and I felt like I didn't have one for 17 years. Today, I'm not a Canadian, but what scares me the most is that I feel like I lost everything that made me a Serb too.
I still have no home.
Thank you brothers and sisters, and thank you Serbian government.
May God and your ancestors be your judge.
And just a note- when Vojvodina separates, I for one won't be out there protesting, organizing rallies, and writing papers at my university.I was a fool.
