Sutanovac warned of a possibility of incidents in the territory of Serbia's southern province, primarily in the area of organized crime, adding that separatist aspirations by nationalist and religious extremist groups are the source of security risk.

Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac has evaluated that the security situation in Serbia is on a satisfactory level and that the Defense Ministry and the Ministry of the Interior, as well as the army and the police, are cooperating well, which is of great importance for the preservations of security and safety.

Sutanovac warned of a possibility of incidents in the territory of Serbia's southern province, primarily in the area of organized crime, adding that separatist aspirations by nationalist and religious extremist groups are the source of security risk.

Such aspirations are a direct threat to the territorial integrity of Serbia, which, just like other countries, is also faced with a threat of terrorism, drug and human trafficking, Sutanovac said in a statement with Policija Danas (Police Today).

He underscored that the operative cooperation between the defense ministry and police is much better than in the past, and that one of the ways of improving the cooperation is the recently signed Agreement on cooperation in the area of telecommunications.

The defense minister underscored that the economic crisis had affected all segments of the society, including the defense system, and that the army's budget had been reduced by 26 percent, which had caused problems in the process of modernization of arms and equipment.
