The Joint Rule of Law Coordination Board meeting, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuci, and Head of Mission of EULEX Kosovo, Yves de Kermabon, last Tuesday held its thirteenth meeting in Pristina at the EULEX HQ.

At the start of the meeting, Yves de Kermabon congratulated the Kosovo police for “a job well done in ensuring security” on election day. Hajredin Kuci expressed the Kosovo government’s “full support” for transparent and efficient rule of law.

Several issues were discussed during this meeting such as the follow-up of the monitoring work by EULEX, the pace and the need for quality in the reform of the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedural Code of Kosovo, the necessity to approve the Law on Courts, Law on the Judicial Council, Law on the State Prosecutor, Law on the Prosecutorial Council, and the importance of increasing the number of border policemen as KFOR gradually decreases its presence in Kosovo. Yves de Kermabon also informed the Board about the establishment of a Human Rights Review Panel (HRRP) which will soon contribute to the external accountability of EULEX.

Both sides have also agreed to restructure the Joint Rule of Law Coordination Board to improve its efficiency. Working groups have been established at the Justice, Police and Customs levels to prepare the meetings and make sure that decisions will be implemented by the stakeholders.
