The draft strategy for the north of Kosovo, which was jointly made by the provincial government and the International Civilian Office, is not the strategy of the European Union - said EULEX spokesperson Karin Limdal.

The draft strategy for the north of Kosovo, which was jointly made by the provincial government and the International Civilian Office, is not the strategy of the European Union - said EULEX spokesperson Karin Limdal.

She, however, noted that the EU has been consulted on this document, together with other international partners.

Limdal said that it is in the interest of EULEX to establish rule of law and the functioning judiciary in northern Kosovo, where most of the population are Serbs.

EULEX does not accept the existence of parallel structures of government in the province and believes that the only option is the formation of strong multi-ethnic institutions that will ensure the rule of law for all national communities - stressed Limdal.

Reminding that it is a common position of all 27 EU member states, the EULEX spokesman said that two operational judicial system cannot exist at the same time and same place, because this, as she said, does not allow the administration of justice and leads to conflict situations that threaten rights of citizens.

Limdal pointed out that progress in the north of Kosovo can be achieved only through a dialogue, namely step by step.
