State Secretary for Tourism of the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development Goran Petkovic said that the arrival of Hungarian low-cost air company Wizz Air to Serbia will make Belgrade more visible within the tourist market of Europe.

Speaking at a press conference held for this occasion, Petkovic said that there will be low-cost flights from Belgrade to London and Dortmund, Germany as of summer 2010.

He voiced the hope that visitors from these airports would come to Belgrade as well and that Serbian tourism would feel the effects of this partnership.

Wizz Air commercial director Gyorgy Abran said that a one-way ticket to Dortmund will cost €24.99, including all airport taxes, while a one-way ticket to London, with all taxes included, will cost €34.99.

He said that Wizz Air will be landing in Luton airport north of London, which has good bus and railway services to the centre of the capital..

Abran said that the Wizz Air fleet currently comprises 28 new Airbus A320 airplanes with 180 passenger seats, stressing that the plan is to increase the fleet to 132 such aircraft before 2017.

He said that last year this Hungarian low-cost company transported 7.8 million passengers, which is 30% more than in 2008, noting that the projected number for 2010 is 10.5 million passengers.

General Director of the public company Nikola Tesla Airport Velimir Radosavljevic noted that the Airport has been announcing the arrival of new airline companies to Serbia almost on a monthly basis.

The Airport is doing its best to open a real competitive market environment, making air travel more available to Serbian citizens and bringing Serbia closer to the European family of nations, he added.
