Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic stated today that Belgrade will not make steps towards joining NATO or any other military alliance, but will cooperate with NATO and other players in the Western Balkans to maintain peace and stability.

Jeremic, who is taking part in the Security Conference in Munich, told the FoNet news agency how important it is to discuss the security dimension in Kosovo-Metohija at the highest level in the international arena.

According to him, the policy of military neutrality will not be altered and the Serbian government will not make any steps towards joining NATO or any other military alliance.

Jeremic reiterated that this, however, does not imply that Serbia will not strive towards close cooperation with NATO and other players in the Western Balkans with the aim of preserving peace and stability.

The Minister emphasised his concern over peace and stability in Kosovo-Metohija, especially after announcements that there may be outbursts of unilateral and illegal activities in the north of the province, noting that the main topic at talks in Munich will be security in the Western Balkans, particularly in Kosovo-Metohija.

Jeremic met with his counterparts from Turkey and Azerbaijan, Ahmet Davutoglu and Elmar Mammadyarov. It has also been announced that he will talk with the German and Russian Foreign Ministers, Guido Westerwelle and Sergei Lavrov.

He will meet with a number of foreign ministers from countries participating in the conference, as well as ministers in charge of EU integration.

Last night in Munich the 46th International Conference on Security began with the utmost security measures. Politicians and experts from around 40 countries are taking part in it.
