Minister of Infrastructure Milutin Mrkonjic presented the new Director of the World Bank Office in Serbia Loup Brefort with the projects of rehabilitation of Serbian road network, with a special emphasis on rail transport.

Mrkonjic said that on 30 July, Serbia, Slovenia and Croatia will sign an agreement on the formation of an alliance of railway companies from the three states to make railway transportation of goods more efficient, more competitive and adjusted to the needs of costumers in the region and beyond.

The Minister of Infrastructure said that a lot has been done to simplify customs procedures so that transportation becomes faster.

However, it is necessary to further invest in the railways to make way from Slovenia to Turkey, which now takes about 60 hours, shortened to 35 hours, said Mrkonjic.

He pointed out that the Ministry has full support of the Serbian government and President Boris Tadic.

Brefort has confirmed that this financial institution will continue to credit large infrastructure projects in Serbia.

He also expressed satisfaction with the cooperation of the World Bank and the Ministry of Infrastructure.

I am extremely pleased with the work of the Ministry of Infrastructure. I was in Dimitrovgrad, a lot has been done there, and if works continue at this pace, I am convinced that they will be completed on time. For us it is very important to implement projects as planned, said Brefort.

Brefort confirmed that construction of roads remains priority for the World Bank in Serbia, which will contribute to the development of areas around Corridor 10 as well as Serbian constructors.
