UK Ambassador to Serbia Stephen Wordsworth said that he was surprised by Serbia's decision to forward a resolution on Kosovo to the UN General Assembly.

UK Ambassador to Serbia Stephen Wordsworth said that he was surprised by Serbia's decision to forward a resolution on Kosovo to the UN General Assembly.

The text of the resolution is unacceptable to the UK, he said in an interview in Serbian language to the BBC. Serbia did not notify the EU or US officials prior to forwarding the resolution to the UN, he said.

There still exists a will to draft together with Serbia a resolution to be presented to the UN. This is a reasonable option for Serbia which wants to become an EU member-state, Wordsworth said.

Referring to the text of Serbia's resolution, Wordsworth said that the countries which have recognized Kosovo, such as the UK, cannot agree to something that would practicaly annull the declaration of independence before the UN Security Council.

There is a way to coordinate the text in a way that would satisfy the interests of both sides.

However, the language used in this precise resolution is unacceptable, he said. It has been stated many times that it makes no sense to call for new negotiations on status, as the Kosovo government would never agree to that and noone would try to persuade it to do so, Wordsworth said.
