Russia expects session of Security Council on August 3

Russia will preside the UN Security Council as of August 1, and expects the session dedicated to Kosmet to be held on August 3, the BETA agency finds out among Russian diplomatic sources.

Russia will preside the UN Security Council as of August 1, and expects the session dedicated to Kosmet to be held on August 3, the BETA agency finds out among Russian diplomatic sources.

It is communicated that on Monday the representative of Russia in the UN will continue consultations with members of the Security Council about the scheduling of the next session.

According to those sources, Russia is interested to have the session organized as soon as possible.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed on July 22, after the opinion of the International Court of Justice about Kosmet, that the stance of Moscow is unchanged and with no intention to recognize the independence of the Province.

It has been stressed that the solution to the Kosmet issue is only possible through the negotiations of the interested parties, based on UN Resolution 1244.

Serbian Foreign minister Vuk Jeremic has announced his participation at the session of the Security Council on August 3 in New York.
