Head of Delegation of the European Commission to Serbia Ambassador Josep Lloveras visited the district heating plant in Pancevo and was shown a film about finalisation of the project Revitalisation and Modernisation of the District Heating System in Pancevo. The project worth 4.5 million euros was funded by the European Union.
Through this project, the European Union helped Pancevo get a sustainable and modern district heating system and enhance environment protection by shutting down eight boiler houses running on crude oil now and additional sixteen in the next five years.
Ambassador Lloveras said that the European integration process in Serbia was not only about investment or the EU financial assistance but that it was a process for new energy that would improve and modernise all aspects of lives of Serbian citizens.
The Mayor of Pancevo Vesna Martinovic highlighted the environmental aspect of the project as it helped put out of use obsolete boiler houses running on oil mazut. The Mayor pointed out that those boiler houses had been seriously affecting the quality of air in the winter months, making it much worse than in the summer and spring.
A system of 6 kilometres long hot-water pipelines has been developed, a new pumping system has been installed, new mixing stations have been built and the reconstruction of nine heating sub-stations has been finalised under this project.
