Relations between Serbia and China are now the best in history and this fact will become formal with the signing of the Agreement on strategic partnership, said Serbian President Boris Tadic on the eve of his official visit to China on August 20.
In his interview for the Fonet news agency, Tadic said that China, in addition to Brussels, Moscow and Washington, should be the fourth pillar of the Serbian foreign policy.
The strategic partnership with Beijing was built on concrete issues such as Kosovo, economic cooperation and principled position of Serbia on the "one China" policy, said Tadic, adding that the two countries have no open issues.
The problem of Kosovo and an attempt that it becomes separated from Serbia are great national problems, said the Serbian President, and noted that China proved to be a strong ally and partner in this case.
Tadic reminded that China did not recognize the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo and that it submitted the letter to the International Court of Justice, which is to announce the advisory opinion about the legality of unilateral moves of Pristina.
As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China will undoubtedly be a witness to the final decision of the Court, which I believe to be in favor of Serbia, since the unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo violated international law, Tadic pointed out.
He assessed that Serbia might be a significant partner to China, as it is searching for new markets in which it can invest in the time of the crisis, and expressed conviction that China might invest in Serbia.
The agreement to be signed is the highest possible document that China signed with any country in the world, said Tadic, assessing it as a great success of the Belgrade foreign policy.
The Serbian President said that he will have talks with the highest Chinese officials to discuss the possibilities of cooperation in the field of infrastructure, information technology, pharmaceutical industry and metallurgic complex.
