The situation is very tense, as Serbs living there claim the agreement reached with international forces for the reconstruction to take place proportionally both on the Albanian and the Serb side has not been respected, to the detriment of Serbs.

This morning, in the presence of strong EULEX police forces, in Brdjani, northern Kosovska Mitrovica, Kosovo Albanians started cleaning the field on two locations for the purpose of reconstructing their houses.

EULEX spokesperson Christian Klasing said UNMIK has authorized some Albanians to reconstruct their house and EULEX is present to prevent any problems.

The situation is very tense, as Serbs living there claim the agreement reached with international forces for the reconstruction to take place proportionally both on the Albanian and the Serb side has not been respected, to the detriment of Serbs.

Nebojsa Minic, a Serb representative, assessed the presence of strong EULEX police forces as a classic occupation and said that the UNMIK administration had not given a permit for reconstruction for safety reasons. KFOR soldiers are supervising the situation in the field from the neighbouring hills.

Six young Serbs were lightly injured last night in a fight with Albanians in Mikro naselje, northern Kosovska Mitrovica.

They were admitted to hospital and then discharged. The spokesperson of the Kosovo Police Service, Besim Hoti, said that around 9.30 pm, Serbs and Albanians clashed in a sports field.

The injured Serbs said they had been attacked and injured by the Albanians first in the field and then in the town itself.

In Mikro naselje, one of the three multiethnic communities in northern Mitrovica, there have been no interethnic incidents so far and on the only sports area the young men of either nationality often play football and basketball together.
